NOTES--GIFTS TO THE SOCIETY

Since our last reporting have come from Mrs. Carl V. Carlson, Mrs. Roy C. Andrews, the Miss Ida Kline Estate, Mrs. Margaret Allan, Mrs. M. F. See, the late Mrs. Carl N. More, Edwin Parre and Mrs. A. G. Nead.  We thank these contributors for their mementos. WE THANK ALL who took part in making our December meeting such a success.

DID YOU PAY YOUR 1961 DUES?

The Society does need this money because we do have expenses.  For instance the cost of our December meeting was considerable despite the fact that Mrs. Pauline Campbell graciously contributed her travelog gratis.  Others also helped with contributions. WE REGRET the passing of Mrs. Carl N. More and Mr. Maurice Marcuson. We extend our deepest sympathy to the families.

WE MUST BE THINKING about some permanent storage for our mementos.  Do you have any suggestions?

Dues for 1962 are now due. Annual dues, $1.00.  Life membership, $25.00.  Illinois State Historical Society annual dues have been raised from $3.00 to $5.00. Up to the end of 1961, the-Batavia Historian has appeared in the Herald 83 times. We have had many expressions of appreciation by people in and out of Batavia for which we are very grateful. It takes a lot of time but we enjoy writing the articles.  However, we would appreciate help. Let us know what you want discussed, or, better yet, write something yourself for the column on Batavia as you recall it.  We will give you full credit. We will have an approximate price in a few days for printing our History of Batavia. The estimate has been delayed because of the holidays.

NOTE FROM OUR RETIRING PRESIDENT

“Since my two years as President of the Batavia Historical Society are drawing to a close, I wish you to know that it has been a pleasure to help in organizing this group and to receive the enthusiastic response from all of you. “You realize, as I do, that there are many things yet to be done, so I know that you will continue your support with your new officers. “I could not conclude without saying that we should be grateful for our Historian, John Gustafson.

Sincerely yours, Eunice K. Shumway”

I know that I am expressing the sentiments of all who have worked with Eunice when I say that no one could have done a better job of initiating our Society than she. We know that her knowledge and experience as past President will be a great help to the new officers. Let us all continue to do everything possible to make this one of the greatest organizations in Batavia. For the cases at the Civic Center, our Mrs. Pauline Campbell has an exhibit of some of the photographs which have won ribbons or have been accepted by the Chicago Historical Society for the project, Chicagoland in Pictures. Stop in and see them. They are excellent.
